Print this page

Austria is renowned for its magnificent peaks dominating the skyline and the pretty villages where the houses are over flowing with colour. The green pastures strewn with wild flowers and the cow bells jingling nearby. Crystal clear lakes like Achensee the Tyrol’s largest sits like an emerald green rug into the Achental valley. This is the most picturesque location especially when it reflects the backdrop of the Karwendel Mountains. The tasty cuisine and Austrian hospitality is second to non that is why tourists return again and again to this awe-inspiring place.

Our onward journey leads us towards Munich, the scenery changing now as we see the mountain peaks in front of us so we know we are entering Austria. At the edge of the Zillertal over the mountain sits Lake Achensee. Bad Tölz. a historic medieval old-town which is charming and delightful. Wander through the old cobbled streets and see the Stadtpfarrkirche, built in 1466—an excellent example of German late-Gothic architecture. It is also known for its spas and spectacular views of the Alps. The Achental valley and Lake Achensee bound the Karwendel mountain chain in the west, while in the east the lake bounds the Brandenberger Alps. We shall arrive late afternoon at the Hotel Fischerwirt located Achenkirch. This traditional family run hotel is will make you feel at home immediately.

It boasts 4307 pipes, 46 registers and 4 manual playing aids. The organ is played in memory of the dead of the two world wars and can be heard throughout the whole town.
